ALTMEDSALES is dedicated to distributing the purest MSM Products.
OptiMSM is used exclusevely in all of our MSM products.

          Why Use MSM for Dogs and Cats?

 MSM is now widely recommended by veterinarians for dogs and cats that suffer from age and/or injury related joint problems. However, MSM has already been used with race horses for nearly 20 years. MSM is widely recognized by veterinarians for its contribution to animal health care. Research has shown the importance of MSM as a dietary source of sulfur.

ALTMEDSALES offers pure MSM powder.  This powder has a very long shelf life and will not clump, a common problem with other MSM brands. OptiMSM is premium quality, methylsulfonylmethane. This licensed form of MSM is approved for animal use, made under license of US Patent 4,616,039 and other US and international patents. Unlicensed, cheap MSM, imported from China, is currently on the market for sale for animals. You should consider the health risk of these products, and look only for patented and pure OptiMSM.

Directions for Use

MSM is a naturally occurring, bioavailable sulfur compound. Sulfur is an indispensable nutrient and should be taken daily for optimal health and nutrition.

For dogs and cats we recommend mixing 500 mg MSM powder per 10 lbs of body weight in your pet's food daily.

For horses we recommended feeding one tablespoon (approx. 12 grams) MSM powder twice daily for the first 7 days. Feed one heaping tablespoon thereafter for daily maintenance.

MSM for Horses

Veterinary interest in MSM has increased over recent years. However, MSM has been used on horses for nearly 20 years. In 1983 John Metcalf, DVM, a well-known equine practitioner, started his evaluation of MSM to treat a variety of illnesses in horses, including chronic muscle soreness, epiphysitis, acute laminitis, pleuritis, recurring digestive tract disorder and arthritis. He has published his positive findings in several studies in peer-reviewed scientific periodicals, and generally emphasizes that MSM is of great value in maintaining the general health of horses.

MSM is now widely acclaimed by veterinarians and horsemen for its contribution to equine health care. Research has shown MSM's importance as a dietary source of sulfur.

ALTMEDSALES offers MSM powder in quantities of 1-lb, 5-lbs, 10-lbs and 10-kgs (22-lbs).  Our MSM powder is premium quality, OptiMSM (methylsulfonylmethane). This licensed form of MSM is the only type approved for animal use, made under license of US Patent 4,616,039 and other US and international patents. Unlicensed MSM that has not been purified for dietary use is sometimes offered for sale to horsemen. You can avoid the risk of these products by insisting on patented and pure OptiMSM.

What you should know about the Quality of MSM Click Here.

Discover the OptiMSM difference. There are many different brands of MSM in the marketplace. When you see the distinctive OptiMSM logo on our MSM products, you know you're getting the original MSM from Cardinal Nutrition, exclusively used by the medical doctor who first brought MSM to the world, Stanley Jacob, M.D. OptiMSM is held to the highest quality standards, tested by independent laboratories to guarantee the absence of harmful metal and biological contaminants, and is always guaranteed 99.9% pure methylsulfonylmethane.

MSM is 100% pure licensed methylsulfonylmethane (MSM), an all natural sulfur source with excellent bio-availability. A small amount of anti-caking material may be added to improve flow and reduce caking,  yielding a final product containing approximately 99.9% pure methylsulfonylmethane.

MSM is an organic substance and is found in all living organisms.  Generally, it is found in relatively small amounts in most feedstuffs.  However, it is not an inherently stable form of sulfur.  Processing of grains and proteins may destroy the naturally occurring MSM.  MSM in hay may easily be destroyed by moisture and/or the drying process.  Therefore, it may be helpful to offer support with a pure source of MSM such as HorseTech's Patented OptiMSM® .

MSM is an excellent source of sulfur for horses offering excellent bio-availability.  Equine professionals, veterinarians, and horse owners report excellent results obtained from the use of MSM including:

    * Connective Tissue Support
    * Joint Support
    * Discomfort associated with normal daily activity and exercise

Why Patented MSM?

The purified, patented MSM is a white, crystalline powder that can be easily incorporated into your supplement program. HorseTech's OptiMSM® is manufactured by Bergstrom Nutrition (OptiMSM® is a registered trademark of Bergstrom Nutrition, Inc.) in the United States under a patent originally assigned to Robert Herschler, the man who originally identified/developed MSM.  Patents were granted to Herschler.  This licensed form of MSM is made under patent #5,071,878.

What about "other" sources of MSM?

Yes, you can find other sources of methylsulfonylmethane. Non-licensed methylsulfonylmethane is often imported from mainland China and/or other Pacific Rim countries and can be purchased in bulk through various importers.  The price, the purity and the quality of this material varies greatly.

Much of this imported material is manufactured using a relatively low cost evaporation process.  With an evaporation based manufacturing process, contaminants found in the water used for production may end up in your MSM product.  HorseTech's  OptiMSM® is made with a unique distillation process where contaminants are "distilled" away from the final product.  You'll note that the distilled product is a fine white powder, whereas the evaporated product will generally be a larger, less consistent "flake" material.

Further, each and every batch of OptiMSM® is tested right here in the U.S. for heavy metal contaminants AND microbiological contaminants.  This is an important part of the quality assurance program!

Now we see a few suppliers offering "licensed" material that is made overseas--for more information, click here.
