New research suggests thousands of breast cancer patients
each year could be spared chemotherapy.

One particular study found that certain women did much better and  were less likely to die or have a relapse if they were given a less harsh drug than Adriamycin which is a mainstay of treatment for decades for breast cancer.

Another study found that a simple gene test (
Oncotype DX) can help predict whether some women need chemo at all, even among those whose cancer has spread to their lymph nodes, which typically brings immediate full treatment .

These findings will be sure to speed the growing trend away from the acidic consequences of the traditional chemo treatments for many breast cancer patients and start targeting it to a much smaller group of women, doctors said Thursday at the San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium, where the studies were reported.

"We are backing off on chemotherapy and using chemotherapy more selectively" in certain women, said Dr. Eric Winer of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston.

The
Oncotype DX gene test in particular "will start changing practice nearly immediately," said Dr. Peter Ravdin of the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. "The results are compelling that this test ...helps select patients who will most benefit from chemotherapy." Cancerous breasts are the most common major cancers in American women. More than 178,000 new cases are expected this year.

According to Dr. Robert O. Young, a research scientist at The pH Miracle Living Center, states, "Breast cancer is the result of metabolic and/or dietary acids that have not been properly eliminated through urination, defecation, respiration or perspiration."

"The breasts become a depository for dietary and metabolic acids that have not been properly eliminated in order to protect the delicate alkaline pH of the blood."

"Cancerous breasts are acidic breasts and tumors are the encapsulation of healthy cells that have been spoiled by dietary or metabolic acids." "Chemo therapy, generally speaking, does not focus on the true cause of cancer - acid. It only adds to an already acidic or toxic condition while poisoning healthy and unhealthy cells," states Dr. Young.

Traditional allopathic Chemo is usually added if the dis-ease has spread to lymph nodes — a situation faced by about 45,000 U.S. women each year. Doctors know that chemo won't help most of these women, but they have had no good way to tell who can safely skip its cost and misery!

Here's where Oncotype DX, a test that measures the activity of 21 genes and gives a score to predict a woman's risk of recurrence, comes in. Doctors have used it for several years to guide treatment for certain women with early breast cancers, especially those that not spread to other areas especially the lymph nodes.

This new study, led by Dr. Kathy Albain of Loyola University in Chicago, looked at whether it accurately predicted chemo's benefit in 367 women whose hormone-driven cancer had spread to their lymph nodes.

A decade after these women were treated, those who had low scores on the
Oncotype DX gene test were found to have had no benefit from chemotherapy.

Because 40 percent of the women scored low, it means that as many as 18,000 women each year might safely skip chemotherapy.

The National Cancer Institute and the test's maker, Genomic Health of Redwood City, Calif., sponsored the study. Albain, Winer and Ravdin have consulted or been paid speakers for the company in the past.

Dr. Kelly Marcom, a Duke University cancer expert with no ties to the company, said the test would give valuable information to guide treatment for more patients in the future. He has used it on about 50 women in the last year.

"I've had it cut both ways" — ruling chemo in and out, Marcom said.

The test is expensive — $3,400 — though many insurers are paying for it because it can avoid even more costly chemo.

Albain plans to discuss using it with Andrea DeRosier, a 49-year-old health care administrator from suburban Chicago whose cancer has spread to a single lymph node.

When a surgeon said she likely would need chemo, "I remember thinking, 'Oh, that's terrible,'" DeRosier said. "I want whatever protocol is going to keep me alive," but not futile treatment, she said.

Chemo's side effects are getting greater attention. One drug commonly used for early breast cancer — doxorubicin, sold as Adriamycin and generic brands — is known to cut the risk of having a recurrence or dying, but raises the risk of heart problems and even leukemia.

Dr. Stephen Jones of Baylor-Sammons Cancer Center tested using Taxotere, a drug not linked to heart problems, in its place in more than 1,000 women with early breast cancer. After seven years, 87 percent of those given Taxotere survived, compared with 82 percent of those given Adriamycin. In addition, those given Taxotere were less likely to have had a recurrence.

The study was sponsored by Taxotere's maker, Sanofi-Aventis SA, a French company with U.S. offices in Bridgewater, N.J. Jones consults for the company.

A study in the New England Journal of Medicine in October showed that another drug, Taxol, does not work for the most common forms of breast cancer.

These new studies should lead to less use of chemo, which is good news, but there has been "intense" pushback from doctors, who fear giving up on a treatment that might help some patients, said Barbara Brenner, head of the advocacy group Breast Cancer Action.

"It's very hard to turn a ship like this," she said. "Adding things never takes much, but removing things takes a mountain of data from the medical community."

"You can image what it is going to take to convince the world that cancer is an acidic liquid that spoils healthy cells not mutated cells that replicate," states Dr. Young.

"Once the world understands that cancer is a consequence of lifestyle and dietary choice then one can start implementing lifestyle and dietary choices that will prevent a cancerous or acidic state."

What is the origin of cancer or where does cancer begin?

Cancerous tissue, above all other consequences of choice, has countless secondary causes. But even for a cancerous condition there is only ONE PRIME ORIGIN and CAUSE. I have simply summarized this origin and cause of cancerous tissue in a few words. The prime origin and cause of cancerous tissue is the over-acidification of the blood then the tissues due to lifestyle and dietary choices. A cancerous tissue begins with our choices of what we eat, what we drink, what we think and how we live. Cancer is a liquid and this liquid is a toxic waste product of metabolism or energy consumption.

In 1966, Dr. Otto Warburg, who won the Nobel Prize in Medicine in 1931 for his discovery of the cause of cancer delivered a lecture at an annual meeting of Nobelists at Lindau, Germany. In his speech he described the primal cause of cancer as follows:

"The prime cause of cancer is the replacement of the respiration of oxygen in normal body cells by a fermentation of sugar. All normal body cells meet their energy needs by respiration of oxygen, whereas cancer cells meet their energy needs in great part by fermentation. All normal body cells are thus obligate aerobes, whereas all cancer cells are partial anaerobes. From the standpoint of the physics and chemistry of life this difference between nomal and cancer cells is so great that one can scarely picture a greater difference. The following is a summary of understanding cancerous tissues: Cancer is not a cell but a poisonous acidic liquid.

A cancer cell, is a cell that has been spoiled or poisoned by metabolic or gastrointestinal acids.

A tumor is the body's protective mechanism to encapsulate spoiled or poisoned cells from excess acid that has not been properly eliminated through urination, perspiration, defecation or respiration.

The tumor is the body's solution to protect healthy cells and tissues. Cancer is a systemic acidic condition that settles at the weakest parts of the body -not a localized problem that metastases.

Metastases is localized acids spoiling other cells much like a rotten apple spoiling a bushel of healthy apples.

There is no such thing as a cancer cell. A cancer cell was once a healthy cell that has been spoiled from acid.

In conclusion, the human body is alkaline by design and acidic by function! If we desire a healthy body we must maintain that alkaline design.

Does diet and lifestyle have anything to do with cancer?

Absolutely! Cancer is not something we get it is something we do as a consequence of daily choice of what we eat, what we drink, what we think and how we live. We either have an alkaline lifestyle and diet and enjoy a fit and healthy body or we have an acidic lifestyle and diet and experience the aches, pains and suffering from metabolic acids.

If cancer is preventable how do we prevent it?

I have said many times that the cure for cancerous tissue will not be found in its treatment but in its prevention. That prevention can only be obtained by making healthier lifestyle and dietary choices. A cancerous condition is the consequence of choice. For example, if you want to reduce your risk for cancereous tissue of the lung by 100%, then stop smoking and stop associating or working around people that do smoke. Secondary smoke is just as acidic and damaging to the lung tissue. If don't want a cancerous liver then stop drinking alcohol and carbonated drinks. If you don't want a cancerous pancreas then stop eating the acid sugar. If you don't want a cancerous bowel then stop eating protein. It is that simple. Summary

1) What is Cancer? Cancer is an acidic liquid from metabolism that spoils and ferments the human cell.

2) Is cancer a mutant cell? NO. Human cells do not mutate they transform and adapt to their environment.

3) Is cancer caused by a virus, bacteria, yeast or mold? No. A virus, bacteria, yeast or mold are biological transformations of what use to be organized healthy matter. Germs are not the cause of disease but the evidence of an over-acidic environment.

5) What is the cause of prostate cancer? Prostate cancer is a condition of systemic acidosis that has localized in the prostate gland. Prostate cancer is the spoiling or rotting of the prostate gland form over acidity. There is no other cause.

6) Is cancer a noun or an adjective? There is no such thing as a cancer cell -- there are only acidic or cancerous cells. The word cancer does not explain the true nature of the cell and what is happening. Cancer is an adjective not a noun. Cancer is something we do not something we get! Cancerous tissue is an expression of poor acidic lifestyle and dietary choice. For example, if you smoke the acids from the smoke will spoil your lungs giving rise to cancerous lung tissue. If you eat acid sugar it will spoil your breasts or prostate. If you eat meat the acids (nitric, uric, suphuric and phosphuric) from meat will spoil and rot your bowels giving rise to cancerous bowels.

7) Are tumors good or bad? Tumors are good and are helping to protect healthy cells and tissues from cancerous or spoiled rotting cells and tissues. Just like one rotten apple will spoil a bushel of apples so one rotten acidic cell will spoil a bushel of healthy cells. To stop the spoiling of cells from metabolic acids the body forms a turmor and encapsulates the spoiled cells as a protection for the healthy cells.

8) What role does the lymphatic system play in cancer? The lymphatic system is responisble for moving excess acids in the tissues out through the pores of the skin through perspiration or back into blood circulation to be eliminated through urination.

9) What should you do if you are diagnosed with cancer? Anyone with cancer should research the use of alkaline pH through proper diet, alkaline pH water, ozone, magnesium chloride, iodine, sodium bicarbonate, flax seed oil and selenium.

Dr. Otto Warburg, two times Nobel Prize winner, stated in his book, The Metabolism of Tumors that the primary cause of cancer was the replacement of oxygen in the respiratory cell chemistry by the fermentation of sugar. The growth of cancer cells is initiated by a fermentation process, which can be triggered only in the absence of oxygen at the cell level. What Warburg was describing was a classic picture of acidic conditions. Just like overworked muscle cells manufacture lactic acid by-products as waste, cancerous cells spill lactic acid and other acidic compounds causing acid pH.

The dangers of fat. To reduce cancer we need to dramatically decrease dietary fat and increase our intake of fruits and vegetables. In study after study, there were high correlations of people who ate a high fat diet being more likely to get cancer. Also people who ate more fruits and vegetables were less likely to get cancer.

Even though raw fats are better,they still shouldn't be more than 20% of your total dietary intake. Excessive raw fats are quite dangerous to your health as well according to Dr. Graham. Too much fat even raw, reduces the oxygen in our cells. Cancer can only thrive in environments with low oxygen. Otto Warburg won the Nobel Prize in 1931 by showing how he could create cancer in 47 different species of animals by lowering the oxygen available to the cells. He was able to form tumors in any animals within three weeks by his procedures. Seems like if you increase the oxygen you would have the opposite affect.

Harvey Diamond also recommends the use of your common sense and not just relying on studies to prove something out to yourself.He states the following: "Frankly, under the right circumstances and with proper funding, scientists can "prove" anything they want. Medical libraries are rife with examples of "scientific studies" that have proved one premise only to be replaced by other studies that prove the opposite."

There is an article in the same journal "proving" estrogen to both prevent and cause heart disease. As another quick example, consider the incredible, terrible egg. Eggs contain one of the highest concentrations of cholesterol of any food. Data abounds showing that this is so. Eggs are the choice of researchers when they want to study their subjects" staggering increases in cholesterol levels. In fact, eggs will increase blood cholesterol levels more effectively than pure cholesterol dissolved in oil! Yet the egg industry is quick to cloud the issue by constantly referring to five "scientific" studies that "prove" of all things, that eggs don't raise blood cholesterol levels. The five studies, by the way, just happened to be funded by the egg industry." pg 98.

Pg 99 "According to Science News, "Scientists don't understand exactly how estrogen fosters breast cancer," but the consensus is that the more estrogen there is in the blood, the more likelihood of developing breast cancer. High-fat diets cause high levels of estrogen in women. Comparisons reveal that women who eat meat have significantly higher levels of estrogen in their blood than vegetarian women. And when women switch to low fat diets, the levels of estrogen drop sharply."

Pg 100 "Researchers at the National Cancer Institute reanalyzed 100 animal experiments pertaining to fats, calories, and breast cancer, and concluded that each excess fat-derived calorie posed 67 percent more risk than calories from other sources. A study of Finnish women found that the participants who later developed breast cancer showed a "consistently higher" average percent of fat-derived calories."

Pg 99 and 100 "An article in the FDA Consumer states that, "The death rate from breast cancer is the highest in countries like  the United States, where the intake of fat and animal protein is high. Further, it commented that Japanese women historically have a low risk for breast cancer, but that risk has been rising dramatically, concurrent with a "westernization" of eating habits, that is, from a low-fat to high-fat diet. Other research that has studied fat consumption of women living in Japan or Japanese women who come to the United States and increase their fat intake also confirms that the more fat eaten, the higher the incidence of breast cancer in these women. An article in Newsweek magazine commented on the hazard of a western diet (beef, dairy and other fat-laden foods) to Japanese women. The article was titled "Death By Fried Chicken."

"Japanese women are not alone in this. There is a definite correlation between fat intake and breast cancer in various countries. It is no accident that the incidence of breast cancer increases commensurately with the increase in fat consumption." Pg 100

Pg 101 "Consider the following comment from an editorial in the New York Times: "Nutritionists and epidemiologists have long observed that people who eat a plant rich diet suffer lower rates of cancer than do meat loyalists."

It is guaranteed that you will not see headlines proclaim that some special ingredient in a pork chop or a hamburger has been isolated and has been found to fight cancer. The compounds of food that are becoming increasingly familiar to people all come from plant foods, not animal foods. Compounds like flavonoids, carotenes, antioxidants, and fiber, and many, many more are all derived from plant foods. Every time you hear about some newly discovered multisyllabic compound that fights disease, it is derived from fruits, vegetables, grains or some other plant food.

Have you ever heard of sulforaphane? Its discovery resulted in a headline that read, "Broccoli Extract Shown to Block Breast Cancer." Researchers at Johns Hopkins University made the discovery and reported it to the media. Sulforaphane is a substance that is found in cruciferous vegetables: broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts and cabbage. They didn't find any in steak.

"Orange Juice Fights Breast Cancer." New research at the University of Western Ontario show this to be so. And what component in the orange juice accomplishes this feat? Small molecules found in all citrus fruits known as flavonoids.

Dr. Gladys Block, of the University of California at Berkeley, reviewed approximately 90 studies relating Vitamin C and cancer. She indicated that, "There is overwhelming evidence of the protective effect of Vitamin C and other antioxidants against cancer of the breast. Fruits and vegetables such as citrus fruits, tomatoes, green leafy vegetables and potatoes are rich sources of Vitamin C and other nutrients. Additionally, Dr. Block reviewed 170 studies from 17 nations and concluded that people everywhere who eat the most fruit and vegetables, compared with those who eat the least, slash their chances of developing cancer by about 50 percent! The evidence is so overwhelming that Dr. Block views fruits and vegetables as a powerful preventative that could substantially wipe out the scourge of cancer, just as cleaning up the water supply eliminated past epidemics such as cholera."

Dr. Peter Greenwald, director of the Division of Cancer Prevention and Control at the National Cancer Institute, Washington, D.C., says, "The more fruit and vegetables people eat, the less likely they are to get cancer, from colon and stomach cancer to breast and even lung cancer. For many cancers, persons with high fruit and vegetable intake have about half the risk of people with low intake."

"Dr. Bruce N. Ames is a member of the National Academy of Sciences. He is a biochemist and molecular biologist at the University of California at Berkeley, where he is the director of the National Institute of Environmental Health Center. Dr. Ames is one of the two dozen most-often cited scientists in the world. His colleagues refer to him as "one of the most innovative thinkers in the world of science." Dr. Ames states that the antioxidant nutrients in fruits and vegetables "can suppress all stages of the cancer process," and that diet is at least as important as smoking as a cause of cancer."

A recent study on cancer prevention was conducted at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York, and appeared in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute in October 1995. Dr. William  R. Fair, at Sloan-Kettering said, "What we found was astonishing to us." And what was it that Dr. Fair found so astonishing? It is that human prostrate cancer tumors grew only half as fast in mice eating diets that contained about 21 percent fat as those eating diets that contained about 40 percent fat."

Are you starting to see the picture here? Could there be any doubt in anyone's mind that it is at the very least probably a good idea to minimize intake of fat and maximize intake of plant foods? How much proof is enough? (There are many more studies too numerous to mention.)
